001. Educational Resources:
Where to Learn More about Slow Fashion & Personal Style

Big Dress Energy by Shakaila Forbes-Bell
A must-read book for anyone who wears clothes! Learn why you wear what you wear, how it shapes your mood, and how your fashion choices can help you achieve the life you desire while staying true to yourself.

Consumed by Aja Barber
Challenge your perception of style by learning more about how colonialism, cultural appropriation, and overconsumption shaped the current fashion scene and consumerism culture.

Wear it Well by Allison Bornstein
[currently reading and loving it]
A book by a viral personal stylist to help you declutter and shop your closet and ultimately develop your signature style to dress with ease.

Why Don’t I Have Anything to Wear?
If you ever wondered why you don’t reach out for that sweater that looked so good in the store or on some influencer, this book is for you. Plus, you’ll learn a ton about mindfully inspecting clothes to ensure they will stand the test of time.

Conscious Style Podcast
I deeply resonate with Elizabeth Joy and Stella Hertantyo’s holistic approach to sustainability. Every problem always has many angles — which they masterfully explore with their change-making guests of different professional and personal backgrounds.

Recloseted Radio
The best podcast for those who want to start or scale a slow fashion brand. Selina is a powerhouse of a woman who provides a ton of free value in each episode. And if you don’t own a clothing brand, you can still learn much about how to work with or for them better.

Conscious Chatter
I think it’s one of the oldest podcasts dedicated to exploring sustainability in the fashion industry. There are over 300 episodes, which gives me FOMO, but you can select any of them, and you’ll love it. I guarantee.

Wardrobe Crisis
The Wardrobe Crisis podcast is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to learn more about the dirty side of the fashion industry and how we can collectively change it for the better.

The True Cost Documentary
The reason I got into sustainability! And it is true for many people I come across over the years. I don’t believe in must-haves when it comes to clothing, but there are must-watch things when it comes to your relationship with fashion. The True Cost Documentary is that.

Fashion Transparency Index 2023
Progress on transparency in the global fashion industry is still too slow among 250 of the world’s largest fashion brands and retailers, with brand performance varying greatly. Fashion Transparency Index 2023 provides a spotlight on how much information the world’s largest fashion brands disclose about their supply chain practices and impacts, to fuel your activism and drive greater accountability.

The Sustainable Fashion Communication Playbook
Written for marketers, brand managers, imagemakers, storytellers, media, influencers and beyond, The Sustainable Fashion Communication Playbook, presents the need to redirect fashion communication towards sustainable and circular solutions as a creative opportunity, and provides a much needed framework to communicate environmental claims.

002. Wardrobe Maintenance:
How to Make Your Clothes Last Longer

Below, you’ll find some wardrobe maintenance tools I use, including from one of my favorite brands, Steamery — everything is ethically made to last! These are honest recs, but prioritize secondhand before buying new — I’m confident that you can find steamers and fabric shavers pre-loved where you live. And right after this shopping section, you’ll see free resources with simple mending techniques and cleaning hacks to prolong your clothes’ lifespan.

REMOVE STAINS LIKE A PRO

Ever since I got into sustainable fashion in 2018 and began taking proper care of my clothes, I haven’t found a better guide for stain removal than this one from the University of Cornell. It’s extensive, nerdy enough to be effective yet it is easy to understand, and free.

CHANGE CLOTHES’ COLOR

Give a second life to your old tees and jeans by dyeing your clothes. It might seem complex and intimidating, but the process is easy, I promise! There are natural dyes (change the color of your clothes with food waste or foraged plants) and artificial ones (like the ones I use.)

LEARN BASIC MENDING

You don’t need a sewing machine to secure a lose button, mend tiny holes and fix pulled threads. A basic sewing kit in your hands would do! Take a look at the free resources below to up your mendning skills and make your clothes last longer.

Try a 30x30 fashion exercise to get out of a style rut, shop your closet, and get inspired by your wardrobe again. This blog post describes in detail why this practical challenge is a must-try for anyone who’s figuring out her style or feels like she has nothing to wear. And below you can download The 30x30 Workbook with tips, spreadsheets, and two capsule wardrobe templates for you to replicate.

EVERYTHING YOU WEAR — IN YOUR POCKET

Digitize your Closet to Easily Plan Outfits, Quickly Build Capsules, & Always Stay Organized

Cladwell is a top-rated app for tracking what you wear (and what clothes you neglect) to maximize your styling opportunities and live clutter-free. Quickly add your clothes to the app and let the algorithm suggest the outfits. You can save the ones you like to favorites, remove those you don’t want to try, store off-season clothes so they don’t get in the way, find out your Cost Per Wear, and even ask AI for style advice!
